Famed international soccer player Lionel Messi stars in TBWA\Chiat\Day’s Gatorade “The Dribble Effect.” Directed by Cassiano Prado, with MPC LA providing VFX and grade, the commercial depicts Messi's competitors awestruck as they watch clips of him in action on the field. As a result, their competitive juices are fueled to play their best game—one in which they push themselves harder to achieve a higher level of greatness.
VFX Supervisor Gizmo Rivera explained,"The expectations were high and the time was scarce as we worked closely with director Cassiano Prado. We collaborated with the agency team, led by Worldwide Creative Director Renato Fernadez and Creative Directors Doug Menezes and Mark Peters, to generate the looks of the stadium, and smooth transitions with precise directive which transformed the short turnaround into a labor of love."
Colorist Ricky Gausis added, "This was a very interesting grade as it was important for all the environments to feel connected, while each also has something distinctively different about it. For example, there is a certain softness in the shadows throughout, but in the first set up we wanted to really feel the sweat on the boys' skin. I had to achieve this without the highlights or shadows being any stronger than the other locations.
"Other examples include creamy highlights in the Juventus footage, a cooler pitch in the Barcelona location when compared to the stadium and a slightly cooler highlight and magenta shadows in the Sanchez set up."
